Important Construction Information

Construction of Bell Tower/Roof/Interior Painting

At the January 5th preconstruction meeting held in Martyr’s Hall with Diocesan representatives, St. Mary’s Cathedral, Hord Architects and Linkous (contractor), a decision was made to begin construction on Tuesday, January 17th.

Andrew Pouncey, Parish Administrator, will be serving as the “Owner’s Representative” for the Diocese and Jim Powell will be serving as the Cathedral’s representative for this project.  Jeff Holt, with Hord Architects, will be the point of contact for any information, questions and communication regarding the design and construction from the contractor.  Andrew Pouncey will serve as the point of contact for Cathedral parishioners for any questions regarding the design, construction, and/or impact on the operations at the Cathedral.

The construction fence along the Poplar frontage of the property will go across the face of the Diocesan House and the Cathedral porches, connecting to Sister’s Chapel.  The contractor’s hours will be Monday thru Friday from 7 am until 3:30 p.m.  The contractor will stage his materials, office and rest area in the parking lot behind the bookstore.

Changes in the service location, the Saturday morning breakfast and other activities will result from the construction.  The January 15th service in the Cathedral involves a procession of the liturgical elements to the Sister’s Chapel.  Following the service there will be a security meeting in Martyr’s Hall with Toney Armstrong, security specialist.  If you have questions regarding security, please send them to the parish administrator.  The Nave of the Cathedral and other areas will be off limits to all parishioners as Linkous begins its work..  More detailed information regarding restrictions on the use of the Cathedral will follow.

Services will commence in the Sister’s Chapel on January 22 at 10 a.m. with access off Poplar Avenue.  Security will be provided.

Andrew Pouncey, Parish Administrator
